Quest system suggestions

Exp/col per post penalizes those who are wordy and descriptive. I've seen some players who average 700+ words a post, as compared to others who only manage ~300.

The only way this would work is if you receive a flat amount of exp/col per post that has a minimum of [?] words, and then receive extra bonuses for every [?] words beyond the minimum.

Some people find it hard to meet 300 words while others find it hard to limit themselves to 300 words.

Limiting the amount of quests/threads a person is allowed to participate in might ease the tension on the mods, as well. I'm not sure on what kind of numbers I would suggest but perhaps something like: 2 solo, 1 group, 1 social thread at a time/per week/whatever.

Per post also encourages sloppy quality and rushing through. I would recommend making it against a per post or paragraph type of thing. Personal experience with other sites has taught me that it ends up becoming a deadpan rush with lackluster and mediocre quality at best. And in the case of per paragraph/sentences/word-count, it becomes a grind to force out posts to make ends meet. Yeah, it's a potentially easy solution, but easy can have a lot of long-term repercussions...

The ideal you should be looking for is a solution which penalizes no one 'type' of player. Making it based off of quality will penalize RPers who like to post multiple times, and making it based off of quantity will penalize RPers who like to post in-depth. You should look into solutions which meet both of these on equal grounds, more or less. (As a personal rule of thumb, I believe in the "you get what you put in" train of thought.)

On the topic of quests, I have noticed that this site definitely seems to be heavily quest-based. You could probably do with attempting to reduce the total income of quests (along with the speed at which one can grind them through).

At least half if not all of the existing Supplementary Skills could probably have the "You must take a Quest" requirements removed. This would probably reduce the strain on QM's quite a bit. I wouldn't really see a problem with letting a character take, say, Swimming or Hiding or Thrown Weapons as a Supplementary Skill when starting out. Making it require a quest puts a bit of burden on the Mods.

I would recommend possibly splitting Supplementary Skills similar to how you have Core+, with the other branch of Supplementary Skills being the one's that require quests... while other Supplementary Skills don't require them. Supplementary+ Skills, perhaps? Cuts down on quest intake, I think.

Basically, an idea you could look into to reduce quests would be to: A). Make it so most Supplementary Skills don't require Quest-grind and instead add some sort of Supplementary+ category for the Quest-exclusive skills. B). Remove the quest-grind entirely for Supplementary Skills, and make it exclusive to Extra Skills. Much less work on the mods.

You could also consider adding rewards of some sort for social threads and non-Quests, as well, though that might require an actual system to be written out with new rules.

Well, I think I've written enough for now... Hopefully this helps. Go easy on me, I'm still a newbie. Just offering advice and suggestions.

My suggestion is to implement a WC system.

What I mean to say is have the players manage their EXPvia word count. Something like the following is what is used on a beach site I pay on and it keeps the headaches down for moderating threads.

WC(words)/50 = EXP

So at max even for someone cranking out 1000 words they're only ever going to grab 20Exp. While this doesn't encourage much in the way of writing quality it lessens the need for mods to be involved in the grading of each quest.

How mods are involved is that in the review thread a mod would go and look at the quest and check to make sure the player has been honest with their scores and award drops, any skills that may have been earned and development to skills used. Like in my case if I was fighting wolves all they'd have to do is double check my word count/50(or whatever number we choose) number is correct then award drops and advance my two handed sword skill and heavy metal armor skill levels.

Example:

Player: Joe

WC: 1000
Modifier: 50
Math: 1000/50 = 20
Exp earned: 20


Mod: Sharon
Drops: 1x wolf pelt
1x raw wolf meat
1x green wood stick

Skill Ups: +2 weapon skill
+2 armor skill

If anyone has any questions I'll dig about a bit on said site and find they're exact explanation and i'll do my best to answer.

If you still want a system, I suggest you make it less high maintenance on your moderators.

It means some major sacrifices.

Figure out a way to make it so that they have to do perhaps as much work as a profile moderator on a daily basis, and then you'll have what they need.

The large number of mods only caused confusion amongst the mods. It wasn't a matter of poor teamwork or leadership in that case; there was physically more mods then one could truly handle.

Figure out how to make it a low-maintenance job guys.
