KAZUYA<<NAME>>Takuya Kazama<<AGE>>23<<GENDER>>Male<<NATIONALITY>>Japanese<<APPEARANCE>>
[ Link ]<<PERSONALITY>>Positive
Determined: Takuya will finish what he starts, no matter what the task or the cost of doing so. Once he sets his mind to something--especially if it is something he wants--nothing will stand in his way.
Adventurous: What more could someone want than a brand new world to explore? Having grown tired of his local neighborhood monotony, Takuya is thrilled by the prospect of a new environment to make his mark upon.
Intelligent: Book smarts, street smarts, common sense; Takuya has it all. That isn't to say he is the smartest man to ever walk the planet but he did make it his business at a young age to widen his intellectual horizons and set himself apart from the rest of his peers. Whether or not he uses his obtained knowledge for the greater good or juvenile mischief, doesn't take anything away from the fact that it is a positive trait.
Persuasive: Takuya can walk the walk and talk the talk. When needed to, the young man can be overly charming. When you combine that with his informed and well-spoken arguments, its almost impossible to be not swayed to his movement. He'll make deals, he'll bat his eyelashes, whatever is required to gather supporters. In all honesty, he would have done well as a lawyer in a real world setting if he wasn't too busy living inside his head.
Protective: Awkwardly enough, Takuya is protective of his possessions, whether they are something as trivial as an old, tattered book or as neurotic as a person he takes particular interest in. He won't let anything happen to his possessions without his say so and if something does, he'll personally make sure that retribution is had.
Negative
Withdrawn: Despite his strong front and willingness to adventure and cause mischief, Takuya is emotionally withdrawn. He harbors deep resenting thoughts of abandonment and more than likely will not connect with someone on a deeper level than simply grouping together. This feeling makes it hard for him to establish meaningful relationships and leads him to cause more trouble than necessary as a way of diverting attention.
Reckless: His life outside of SAO is practically void of individuals who would steer him in a sensible direction, so he is allowed to his own misguided devices. Takuya really has no regard for his own personal safety due to a feeling of self-entitlement, believing he invincible to things lesser than him. This recklessness will lead him into dangerous situations if he isn't governed by a good guiding voice.
Stubborn: What self-respecting person especially likes being told what to do? Takuya is no different, if not more so than most. He will usually disregard warnings if they don't fall in line with his plan. He has no desire to live a life being told that what he's doing is foolish. "Tunnel vision" is what they call it when someone is so focused on an objective that they don't see anything else going on around them. It might as well have been named "Takuya vision."
Morality: Or the lack there of, is what should be said. Takuya's moral compass was broken long ago when he started to act out. It originated by questioning his guardians at every turn, developed into alienating and challenging his classmates, before finally creating chaos for the local law enforcement. He doesn't see things in white or black, everything is just a hazy shade of grey.
Narcissistic: He believes he is better than others and by others, Takuya means everyone.
Devil's Advocate: His only allegiance is in SAO is to himself. It isn't unlike him to play Devil's Advocate, no matter what the situation or stakes may be, if only to entertain himself. There is no fun to be had in a world where everyone thinks alike and follows the same ideal like a group of lemmings. Takuya believes that people need to be challenged, whoever they are.

Gardening<<HISTORY>>To be honest, it is anyone's surprise that Takuya didn't turn out far worse than he did--depending on who you ask. He is a product of a bad relationship that turned even worse. His biological parents' identities are unknown to him with the exception of a few facts, his mother was no older than sixteen when she gave birth to him. Throughout the years, he was able to gather little tidbits of information here and there, notably that his mother was more than eager to give him up when it came time--and his father had been out of the picture the moment she informed him that she was with child.
His early years were spent in an orphanage. There weren't many other kids at the orphanage from what he could recall of his memories. Takuya was clothed, fed, and educated, the best that they could, but there was absolutely no familial feeling among them. It was more business than emotion at that establishment. He mainly kept himself entertained through reading and imagination, doing what he could to stay out of trouble and out of the way of his caretakers. Abandoned and nameless, the matrons ensured his survival long enough to pawn him off on unsuspecting foster parents at the age of seven. At some point, he was named Takuya, although it was always uncertain who actually named him--the orphanage or his first round of foster parents, the Kintaros.
The records and details regarding his time spent with the Kintaro family have been sealed. Ultimately, he ended up in the foster system once again, only this time sporting a couple of bruises here and there. From that point, Takuya was in and out foster homes on a regular basis, returning to the orphanage just a little more bitter than the time before. After a while, he realized that nothing would change in his life unless he changed and so he did. He started to play the game and by that, he played a real life game of chess and everyone was a pawn to him.
He studied, further educated himself, stayed with families that were able to offer him more than others until he no longer had any use for them. He developed a complex about himself; he believed he was better than the hand life had dealt him and he would do anything to prove himself right. Foster parents, teachers, fellow classmates, it didn't matter--he manipulated them all to serve his endgame until he finally found what he was looking for: Privilege. He would lie, cheat, steal, whatever he needed to in order to get by and steadily he was making a name for himself, although it wasn't a good one. A particular favorite of his was telling people he had a fragile heart arrhythmia and any sort of stress on him could kill him--a lie, of course, he just hated doing work.
Takuya was adopted by the Kazama family when he was sixteen. As one of the oldest left in the adoption system and on the verge of seeking emancipation for himself, it was by chance he was taken in by Genjiro and Hiroko Kazama, an older couple searching for an idea of family that they felt they missed out on when they were younger while pursuing their individual careers. Needless to say, they had it all: wealth, recognition, influence, and power. Takuya knew these were the one's he needed to hold on and so once again, he wore a mask--one of obedience, love, gratitude, whatever was needed.
He blended like a chameleon. Although, he still managed to get into trouble here and there, he found that it was much easier for him to get away with his antics now that he had that Kazama name tacked on. Takuya moved through primary school and into secondary school, taking classes with no real direction behind them other than whatever he figured he needed to get along.
On the streets, without his family mask, he still enjoyed playing with other people's lives. Takuya would shadow gangs for a time, assimilating into their numbers and rise in the ranks by deceitful means, often through manipulation of the not-so-educated and obscenely elaborate ploys. He'd pit opposing gangs against one another; share secret information, coordinate business on already claimed territory, create dissension among the ranks and plot takeovers. Eventually, he would get bored with it all and disappear without a trace for some time, leaving nothing but chaos in his wake.
Takuya moved into adulthood and practically dropped off the map, intentionally. Trolling gangs and other adolescents were too small time for him now, and more importantly, far too easy. His father set him up with a small (the Kazama definition of small, anyway) building in downtown Shinjuku to use as a central office for whatever future business dealings he have. From his personal office atop the building, he was able to see all of the city, always busy and full of people. However, he didn't have a next move, he was at a mental impasse and it frustrated him. All the same people, all the same boring problems. What was the solution? What would be his next big high?
It was only by chance that he even tried Sword Art Online. A night in his office, when he was suffering a particularly bad case of melancholy over his lack of ongoings, Takuya picked up the NerveGear headset and logged in. He wasn't very proficient at video games in the first place, let alone VRMMORPGs but he was a expert at anonymity on the internet, and knew how to use that to find small pleasures when he was bored.
It was "Kazuya" that he became, an amalgamation of his surname and given name, a supposed-to-be temporary identity that lacked any sort of imagination or flair whatsoever--completely unlike Takuya. A large, virtual world, completely without the rules of the real one. There was something magnificent about it. And the people. Oh, the people, people from all over the world, all walks of life, just everywhere he went. A new playground with new playthings. Absolutely splendid.
All of that "temporary" went out the window the moment the entire player base was summoned to the Town of Beginnings for Kayaba Akihiho's grand reveal. A brand new world for him to explore with people completely unfamiliar with him? Well, he wasn't too keen on the whole "being trapped" part, and he would work on that but that didn't mean he couldn't have a little fun along the way. What else did he have to look forward to?SKILLS
