Right, for those who aren't quite sure how to start off in posting in character, we have provided a few guidelines and answers to most of your questions below. Make sure to thoroughly read the quests information, located here, first. If you're still confused, come back here and this should clear up most of your questions.
What is a quest?
Think of a quest as any typical thread in a roleplay, but with a quirky name. Quests can involve all manner of scenarios. Because this is a virtual gaming world, your player can go on NPC-given quests if you want. Additionally, your quests can involve the everyday, normal socializing and shenanigans. Meet new players, forge a weapon or have a weapon forged for yourself, go on an adventure, tame a beast, learn a new skill, get drunk in a tavern, fall in love...the scenarios really are endless.
What do I do first?
To get started, you have two options. You can either, a) start a new thread of your own, or b) join an existing thread with another player. To join an existing thread, look for a thread that is open or ask a member if you can join a thread with them. For those wishing to start their own thread, refer to the steps below.
1) Go to the quests in progress board.
2) Copy the template for the quest logs, found here.
3) Fill out the template and then post it for all the board to see.
- Make sure to list any members you already know are joining your topic. If you don't have anyone already planning to join, list the thread as open to allow players to jump in when they wish. If you don't want more than a certain number of people joining, make that clear in your quest log.
- Make sure to include the hyperlink to your quest so players can immediately join if they wish. Additionally, you can wait to include the link to the post if you want to see who is joining first.
- Your quest description can be as basic or as detailed as you want but give enough information for the game masters and other members to know how this will start out. The actual quest can change over time if it is long enough and we do expect unforeseen events to happen. This is a part of roleplaying! You never know what the other player might do.
How long should quests be?
That's totally up to you and the other player(s) participating in your quest. We advise that all quests be a minimum of two pages, though. If you want to make your quest longer than that, have at it.
What's the deal with solo quests?
Consider solo quests to be a short story. You're the only one who posts in your solo quest and you have no obligations to keep up with another player. Try to make these interesting, but you can do up to two solo quests per week. Solo quests receive less of the base rewards that group quests do. These quests are not mandatory and you only need to go on solos if you wish. Solo Quests are limited to 2 total posts. In order to turn in a Solo Quest for rewards, the quest must exceed 1000 words. Rewards will be dependent upon quality and content of the quest. The limit for Solo Quests still stands at 2 per week. If a solo quest is not finished within the week it was started, it carries over to the limit for the next week.
What about monsters?
Monsters are (usually) your opponents in Sword Art Online. Aggressive monsters can not attack within any towns. These creatures come in all manner of sizes, shapes, forms, and levels of power. Make sure to check out the Monster Database to know what monsters you can fight.
Be realistic when taking on monsters! Just because we are not accepting quests anymore does not mean you can fight however many monsters you want. Don't bite off more than you can chew and think of the c-level of the monsters as well as how many you can take on.
Solo players obviously can not take on much more than their own levels can provide. If we see obvious and repeated signs of you trying to fight off more than you should (in the case that you realistically would have died in game), then rewards will be docked. We trust you to use common sense when having your characters take on monsters, even if your characters are of the reckless type.
Okay, the thread is finished or has died off. What now?
In this system, players receive rewards for finishing their quests. Once you have finished the quest or the other player(s) has not responded in a while, you can turn the quest in for review if you wish.
1) Go to your quest log.
2) If any players have joined since the start of the quest, please add in the names of the participants.
3) Make a post stating that the quest is complete.
4) Post up your quest in the review (re)quests queue!
5) Wait for a quest moderator to grade your quest.
