>> OVERVIEW OF QUESTS
what's a quest?
Questing is a good way to get lump sums of experience, gold, and items. The normal, player created quest will have no gamemaster interaction. You're responsible for dictating your own fighting, dancing, eating, whatever you need to do for your quest. Chat, watch someone get killed, discuss events and future plans, go on an adventure or an NPC-given quest, get drunk, fight in a field with a friend or enemy, create a guild....The possibilities are really endless. NOTE: **Quests now act as both NPC-given quests AND socials. They are all treated as quests.
Duels [PVP] are also placed here. If neither of you can decide on the victor or a clear ending, message one of the quest/event staff and inform him/her of your duel and the game master will watch the thread progress and decide upon a victor! If a player wishes to kill another player, it will require permission from both a quest GM and both participating players.
While the vast majority of quests are player created, the gamemasters may occasionally offer quests of their own for unique rewards. Special event quests run by a gamemaster will have greater rewards and will have active participation by the gamemaster who created it. When participating in these quests, treat the gamemaster as a player in the posting order as well as respecting his/her "characters".
>> CREATING QUESTS
here's how to create them.
Creating quests is a simple matter. They require no mod approval to start. Pick a level and pick a goal. That's pretty much it. Just like character levels, quest levels range from 1 to 100. Level 0 quests are considered tutorial-like quests. Players may choose if they want to go on an NPC-given quest or simply have their own adventure or ‘social’ thread. Players may even start with a ‘social’ and can later go on an NPC-given quest, or vice versa, in the same thread if they so wish it.
Characters can only solo quests of their level or lower. Group quests are limited to whatever the average level of the group is. If a group has four or more members, the quest's maximum level is increased by one.
Once you have the template filled out, post a new thread (otherwise known as a quest log), in the IN-PROGRESS board. Include any characters you automatically know are entering. Unless you don't mind new people joining in, it is advised that you include some manner of [O] for OPEN or [C] for CLOSED in the subject if you intend for the social to be for select players. This also serves for good advertisement if it's you and your lonesome and want someone else to join! As soon as the quest thread is linked, your quest will be considered in-progress.
Please use the template below to post up your quest log. Be mindful to use the style checker since the code button messes up the style code.
[blockquote][blockquote][b]Name.[/b]
[blockquote]What's the name of your quest? Add the level at the end of the quest name and whether it's a Solo, a Group, or a Death Enabled. Like so:
THE UGLY DUCKLING [Level 1][GP]
THE UGLY DUCKLING [Level 1][SOLO]
THE UGLY DUCKLING [Level 1][DE]
THE UGLY DUCKLING [Level 1][SKILL]
THE UGLY DUCKLING [Level 1][EX]
GP = Group
Solo = Solo
DE = Death Enabled [only moderated by GM's]
Skill = Supplementary Skill Training
EX = Extra Skill Training[/blockquote]
[b]Location.[/b]
[blockquote]Where's the quest located?[/blockquote]
[b]Objective.[/b]
[blockquote]What's the goal of the quest? What do you have to do to complete it if this is an NPC-given quest? Is it a casual thread instead?
This is also a good place to state what the c-Level of the monster subtype you are or may be fighting. [/blockquote]
[b]Participants.[/b]
[blockquote]Who's going along on this quest? If it's just you, say Solo. If you want players to join or this topic is closed from other players joining, feel free to say so. Also, post the c-levels of each character participating. [/blockquote]
[b]Requested Rewards.[/b]
[blockquote]You can request some specific rewards here. Be sure that you fight the archtype monster if you want specific drops, also it's not guarenteed that you get them.[/blockquote]
[b]Notes.[/b]
[blockquote]Anything else that the GM or the members need to know? Say it here.[/blockquote]

>> SOLO QUESTS
a guide for solos
Yes. Yes you can solo quests. There really isn't a whole lot different between the soloing and not, except soloing is quite possibly less interesting. Just like with multiple people, you're responsible for ensuring all quest objective are complete before submitting the quest as complete. Like with multiple people, quests are given rewards based on effort and a few other things, so take your time a little.
Especially for solo quests, make sure what you're doing is interesting. One of the gamemasters has to read it, so you might as well make it good. It might even make us fudge a loot roll for you. Remember to write at least 1000 words for your entire quest. Don't rapidfire tiny posts in a solo quest. We will find you. And smack you with a Starter Skillet.
You're limited to two solo quests a week per character. Quest limits reset on Saturday of each week.
>> REWARDS FOR QUESTS
you get PRESENTS?!
The baseline reward for solo quests is approximately 100 COL per post, capped at 200 COL as solo quests are limited to 2 posts maximum. The baseline reward for group quests is approximately 100 COL per post. You gain 200 EXP (inclined to change) for every IC post you make, and unlike solos, the word count minimum for group quest posts are set to 200. Please be sure each of your posts contain substance necessary to the completion of quests.
Rewards will increase in the case of longer and more thought out quests. If the grading team can tell you put time, work, and especially quality into your socials, then you will be rewarded justly for your efforts.
We're not looking for just numbers here, but time and effort.
Although items are no longer a normal part of the rewards, you are able to receive rare items that you cannot otherwise purchase in the NPC store through participation in staff-moderated events and/or quests.
>> SUPPLEMENTARY and EXTRA SKILLS
ready to obtain those empty slots?
There is a special type of quest called a Skill Training Quest, which allows you to RP your character as they attempt to learn a new skill in the Supplementary Skill List. You should state which skill you're trying to obtain when posting this quest. There are a few factors such as post quality which will determine whether or not you get the skill, but essentially if you RP well enough, then you should be able to obtain the skill.
For those who decide to solo their supplementary training, we do want the length of these quests to be at least 1000 words with a maximum of two posts.
You're limited to one supplementary quests a week per character. Quest limits reset on Saturday of each week.
Additionally, there is a set of special quests that go into obtaining an Extra skill. All players require three basic quests that involve the characters trying to learn the skill or at least revolve around the skill itself. A fourth and final quest is required for moderators to grade the quests and decide if the player will receive the skill or not. The fourth quest involves a specific requirement that can be seen here. If you follow the general guidelines and RP well enough, then you should be able to receive the skill. When you have finished your four quests to obtain the extra skill, please include the links of the threads in a message and PM one of the quest moderators.
>> FINISHING QUESTS
how do I finish?
When your quest is complete, please follow-up with a reply in the quest description and state that your quest is finished. Make sure to add any new participants that might have joined your thread since the beginning, too. Any participant can post a reply. Make sure to post a link to your quest log and quest thread in the review request queue here, so the game master can see you are finished. A gamemaster will distribute rewards and move it to the "finished" subboard.
If there is a problem with the quest's completion, it will not be moved and the problems will be outlined so you can fix them.
Some quests may receive a partial grade if the content is too short and unfinished. To be fair, if your thread is long enough but eventually died out, it will most likely not receive partial grading.
Should you have concerns about the rewards you have received please pm the GM who reviewed your quest.
Do not forget to include this for the convenience of your GMs once your thread is completed! Your quest may be skipped and come back to at the end of the list if the template is not included.
