Before one can even take a good look at Demetri Volkov as a whole, he or she must start with the most obvious - the gorgeous mane of luscious, fire-engine red hair. Somehow or another he pulls it off marvelously, bringing it together with blazing crimson eyes. For a teenager of his stature, he has often been called porcelain due to any lack of skin coloration, and his cheek bones sit quite high. He has the face of a young woman: slightly pointed nose, heart-shaped face, and an outstanding smile that shows a few awkwardly-placed teeth.

When standing up, Demetri is a bit of a tall young fellow. He is skinny something terrible, only weighing a good 100 lbs (or 45kg). The majority of his weight comes from rather-long legs; he had always been the tallest in his classes in school, and he was always first to be picked when playing basketball (though he wasn't sure why since his athleticism was abyssmal). His arms swing wildly by his sides, reaching all the way to just below his slender waistline. Typically, he wears jeans and an opened button-down shirt to expose his lean chest. Being Russian, he has little to no body hair, and growing a beard is nearly physically impossible.

[+] Honest: Demetri has a tendency to be very open and up-front about things. He grew up in a family where honesty was placed as a highly valued trait. Both his mother and his father made sure to answer every question he had honestly because they believed there was no greater policy.

[-]Possessive: What's yours is yours, and what's his is his. Whenever he gets a new video game, he tends to horde it. Never ask to share any of his food with him. If you're ever in a party and you want him to share some of the loot he has, make sure you have something shiny to trade with him. Check those loot settings before joining...

[+]Friendly: Conversational skills are wonderful to have, and Demetri has no troubles with being a little socialite. This was, after all, the best way to make friends, and friends were allies that would come to your aid in the darkest of times. On more than one occasion Demetri has needed friends to back him up, whether it be to bullies at school or simply help with a school assignment.

[-]Gullible: Being that he makes friends so easily, he believes most anything that he is told. It's almost gotten him into some serious trouble with the law before, too. Those that he does keep as friends know and understand this, and so they try to keep ridiculous jokes to a bare minimum.

[+]Optimist: No matter what the circumstance, Demetri can always find something to smile about. There are those that have much, much less than he does, so he always tries to be thankful for everything that he has (without being generous, of course). Situations that look dire only send him into a corner to seek a positive solution.

[-]Low Self-Esteem: Being an angsty teen, this young man is always seeking words of inspiration from people. He doesn't go out of his way in order to earn a compliment, but he tends to seek out odd jobs that will not only reward him nicely but elicit some sort of positive encouragement.

<<HISTORY>>

It all began on a rainy evening when two young lovers ran away, seeking to get hitched and settle down with their shabby lives and thirty dollars in their pocket. Nine months later, Demetri Volkov was born to an unexpected teenage couple who promptly gave him up for adoption. He was adopted only months later by a middle-aged couple, Virginia and Ivan Volkov. These two adults were much better suited than the teens at raising a young child, especially one who stayed as sickly as young Demetri.

For the first five years of his life, Demetri constantly made visits in and out of the hospital. He grew up in the United States (Pennsylvania, to be exact) and that's where he became familiar with the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania, one of the best hospitals available to an ill young boy. Battles with pneumonia and other pulminary problems kept Demetri close, causing a few "close calls" that weren't so fantastic. Despite all of this, the young red-haired boy kept on smiling, knowing that one day he would finally be well.

Once he started school, things began to look up. For the next few years, Demetri studied hard and tried to make sure that he could keep up with his peers. Unlike some, he had to study up and work hard in order to understand the material. It didn't take too long before he was offered to skip the next grade, putting him back on track to graduate with those of his own age. Academia became one of his priorities as he continued to study for years to come. At one point, he had to miss school again because he was sick, but when he came back his teacher forced him to take a test he wasn't prepared for. That was the first time he had ever cheated on a test, and his parents were promptly informed of his misconduct. They began instilling in him the importance of being honest, no matter what the consequences may be.

Once he entered into his teenage years, Demetri began to change. His focus on academia dropped and he started to hang out with the guys at school that he should have avoided. Smoking became his new favorite pasttime, which caused him to have some more serious pulminary concerns. He was rushed to the emergency room one night after inhaling too much cigarette smoke, causing one of his lungs to nearly collapse and the other to almost overwork itself. His parents were called in and he told them all about his new bad habit. Neither parent was surprised as they had already suspected it, but they took swift action and moved once he had recovered. They couldn't allow him to go back to that school, and so Virginia and Ivan packed their things and headed to the only other place they still had family: Illinois.

Demetri finally settled in, after arguing with his parents about hating them and their reasons for making him move, and actually began to enjoy the place. He was a typical teenager with a waxing and waning attitude; nothing was ever safe. His self-esteem dropped more than normal when he was getting picked on at school, causing him to start retreating to other means to pass the time. This is when he discovered online gaming. Nowadays things were becoming so advanced that he was able to hook his computer up and start playing almost any free game without the need for an overly complicated download and patching process. Now, at age 16, the young boy managed to snag a copy of Sword Art Online from one of his friends as well as his Nerve Gear. He had to fork over a load of money to get it, but with his part-time job at the movie theater, that wasn't too much of a problem. Now that he had the game first, he was going to hop in and get a head start on everyone else. He closed his eyes and he placed the Nerve Gear on, lying down to face a world he would never have dreamed possible.
