The Meteor Impact is a slow, single smash attack, only useable with two-handed maces The mace is held head backwards, pointing away from the intended target, before glowing a dull blue and filling itself with energy. In one loud, angry swing, the mace is swung over the top of the wielder's head and downwards onto the target. A few steps may be taken between charge and discharge to bridge the gap between user and target. This strike is not only damaging to targets but to their gear, and will exact a significant amount of structural stress upon structures, weapons or armour it strikes.

Steel Wind is an attack that hurls the heavy head of the two-handed mace in a simple circle, striking all those that happen to be in the circle. The head of the mace is held backwards and hands are shifted down towards the base of the handle, allowing for maximum range. The weapon's handle extends an extra two feet as the entire weapon glows a dull orange. The user then spins rapidly in place and strikes up to five targets in the circle for each strike, and leaves a distinct, orange set of sparkish particles that blur around the circle of the spin.

William is a pretty nice guy. He is generous and caring, truly wanting the best for everybody around him. In fact, he is almost the sort of guy that is offputtingly nice; you know the type, the guy you avoid in the hallway in school because he'll come up and ask you how your day has been going, even though you have places to be. He will gladly take a hit for somebody, and will in fact leap in front of attacks so that his allies don't have to suffer them. He is always willing to extend a helping hand to those in need, with a smile on his face and a calm, collected demeanour about him.
In battle, he is quick and decisive, moving in to destroy his enemies however he can, using whatever means at his disposal are available. This usually means taking direct hits from enemies if it means landing his own. Almost dying so a new floor can be accessed would be chalked up as a victory in his eyes.
However, the virtual world has changed him slightly, as you will understand as you read further. He will grow more hostile and quick to anger, taking out his rage on, hopefully, the enemies found through the game world. He has even grown slightly resentful of those around him, thinking they're squandering the gift of 'life' that they've been given. He can be quite prideful and protective of the world around him, very audibly bitching out those that speak ill of the virtual world in which they live. To top it all off, the thing he fears most is death. He will do anything to avoid it. Sure, he will take hits for others, even for himself; but if things look like they will go south, he will likely have no issues with throwing somebody else under the metaphorical bus... anything to avoid the fate that awaits him, something he had already experienced.
As a side note, he also has an unhealthy obsession with toast within the virtual world. This is likely due to the fact that he truly enjoyed it and hadn't had a chance to actually consume food for a long, long time. (See History.)

William was born to a simple, upper-middle class suburban family. In fact, you might even say he had a picturesque upbringing; a house with a white fence, a dog, enough money for some of the finer things in life and parents that loved him. Being an only child, he managed to get spoiled like crazy, though he never really let it go to his head. He was always kind and generous, as his parents were and passed down through their genes and teachings. He was the kind of kid to hug you and tell you things would be alright, or that would tell bullies to back off the smaller kids.

His Teen years were very similar to his youth, going about his life being generous and kind. However, life can be quite cruel, dishing out punishment when one least deserves or expects it, and William was the centre of just such a 'divine' punishment a few weeks after his sixteenth birthday.
This came in the form of a car crash, as his family's car was struck from the side by a truck running a red light, smashing right into William's door. Miraculously both of his parents remained mostly unharmed, save for a broken bone here and there. William on the other hand was not so lucky, and barely survived the trip to the hospital.
Medical care is expensive in the States, as many of us know. Surgery after surgery was conducted, all at personal expense of the Laitila family, to bring him back to the land of the living. In fact, the family nearly bankrupted themselves just to keep him alive, though the doctors said it was very unlikely that he would ever awaken again. Even life support was expensive, but they dared not take him off it. That glimmer of hope still shone bright, and before long, it came in the form of a video game company.
In exchange for the right to experiment upon his brain, William's parents would no longer have to pay for his medical care and expenses. In fact, the idea that William may once again live, even if it was just in a virtual world, was an idea of hope to them. Of course, they didn't know what was to come of that world.
William was given his own name as a screen name, as he wasn't exactly around to choose for his own... and though he has regained life, it's on the line once more, though his arena has changed quite dramatically.

SAO is more than just a game to William; sure, it's a game one can die in for most, but it's so much more than that. For him, it is his entire world; his existence exists only within the confines of the game world. While it is likely he will go about his usual ways and help all those he comes across, it may also come to pass that he becomes selfish and afraid of that painful nonexistence. He may just do his very best to thwart all attempts to complete the game, as it would end his new life and the world he has found for himself.
