Kiryuu`s Appearance

The majority of people are often found to be surprised by his physical appearance whenever they first meet with the young man, no doubt expecting someone that appears more menacing judging from the tales that they have heard of his exploits {Reference to the future}. And honestly, who could blame them? Whilst it isn't true that he's some ten foot monster, he does stand at an astounding height of 6'3" {190.5 cm} once he stands upright instead of his usual slouching down. And even though the supposed muscles that pulse and tear apart his shirt are non-existent, he is quite fit. Having a smooth layer of subtle muscle throughout the entirety of his body, gained only from his constant diligence in karate back in the real world. A rather large scar can be found going across vertically his chest, which isn't the result of some battle of epic proportions, but instead of an heart surgery that he received whilst he was still young. And also, about the rumor about him shaking the earth with every single step of his? Not true either. He however does weigh quite a lot for someone of his height, reaching a total of 190 lbs {86.18 kg}.

Looking past through his astounding physical stature, one would find several subtle oddities that he possesses. The first being... his pale skin. Whilst it isn't odd for someone possessing such skin, it is odd how it remains as such... especially if one is prone to stay outside quite often. Spending at the least 7 or so hours under the sun, one would at the least get some sort of tan. But not Kiryuu. The explanation is simple, he possesses poor blood circulation. Seeing as the blood doesn't circulate properly, it causes the skin to pale in response, as well become cold to the touch. The second oddity is his red coloured eyes, which is a phenomenon caused by the lack of a certain pigment called melanin. With those two oddities he is often mistaken for an Albino, which often frustrates him due to the countless times he had others categorize himself as such. His eyes typically have permanent dark rings underneath them as a result of his chronic insomnia.

Kiryuu possesses light blonde coloured hair, which is kept at medium in length. Despite his appearance, Kiryuu takes great care of his golden-like hair. Being slightly obsessed by making sure that it remains in that exact length, and clean. His hair has a certain particular style, consisting of long streaks falling down, thinning as it reached its end and thus creating a sort of spiked-look. There are two long strands that are located to the side of his face, easily reaching his shoulders in length. Only a few strands which form the bangs are kept to their respective sides, while the majority are kept in the middle; though for the most part do not hinder his sight. As for clothing Kiryuu does not typically change his attire of dress, unless of course he does so to accommodate for the change of climate. His neck can be commonly seen being wrapped with a thick dark scarf, falling to his legs at the back, and at the front to his stomach; Kiryuu wears it despite what the weather is. Wearing gloves of the same color as his scarf, being extremely long in length. As for a shirt, he wears an oddly styled one, being blue in color with a trim being the same color as his scarf. A criss-cross binding is found on his chest, which is there to hold the sheath to the weapon located behind him; secured tightly and thus difficult for it to be torn off. He wears cargo-like pants, being yet again the same color as his scarf, though has a golden streak going across it for style, he wears shoes which match with his attire.

The user's blade glows black as he strikes the enemy. The damage dealt is minimal, but the neurons on the limb struck with the sword are temporarily disabled, completely numbing pain and limping it. The affected limb cannot hold and drops anything it carries, be it the body or the weapon. Has no effect on any other part of the body other than the legs and arms.

The art can start off with the user having a head-start running or standing still. The user will run at below moderate pace which will be somewhat slow. The curved sword will be held in the user's dominant hand while the other hand will run against the blade's tip causing it to glow white. After coming into the proximity of the enemy, the user will then thrust the sword towards the enemy. If the attack hits, the user will deliver a vertical slash before ending the art in a horizontal slash. This art is predominately used as a starting attack.

FEARS

• HYPNOPHOBIA; Unknown to the rest of the SAO Community, Kiryuu does feel some fear despite how others view him as a fearless individual. These fears are as odd as are his goals, the first being... the fear of sleep. Technically, it isn't the action itself that Kiryuu fears, but rather the dreams that come with it. Well, nightmares. Whilst the state of unconsciousness disturbs him, therefore the lack to effectively protect himself from others, the nightmares that plague him every single time he falls asleep are what he fears the most. The nightmares tend to be rather intense, easily causing him to sweat, mutter words of cowardice or of hate, and flail around in his sleep; violently. Upon being released from the grasps of his nightmares, his bed is often drenched with his sweat, and the sheets are ripped from him flailing around in his sleep. If that weren't enough to explain the intensity of it all, his hand is always outstretched, reaching for the ceiling before waking up... in a strangling motion; as if to kill whatever was in his nightmares. Due to this fear, he is an insomniac. Rarely falling asleep of his own accord.
  
  
• CATAPEDAPHOBIA; Similarly, much like the previous fear, he keeps it outside of the knowledge of others. And he does so very well, for the most part. Catapedaphobia, is the irrational fear of jumping down from a certain height; despite whether it be from an high or low place. The fear itself should not be confused with Acrophobia; the fear of heights. Kiryuu has absolutely no problem with walking around in high places, or even looking down below. The only thing he would not normally volunteer to do, would be to jump down. And the altitude doesn't matter, he just won't do it. The only times that he truly wouldn't care to jump down, would be when jumping down from a height of less than a foot. Anything more, and he wouldn't be able to bring himself to execute the jump. If he tries, he'd awkwardly move forward. Prepare to jump by lowering his body, gathering strength in his legs. And THEN, he would go back up. Claiming how jumping is only a waste of energy, and how it may harm him. Then he'll proceed to get down normally, via stairs or through some other way.

HABITS

• SEEKING; Kiryuu is a being whom is constantly searching for something in his day to day life, though it hadn't been giving birth by mere curiosity as others had suspected; he does so in order to find a way to attain excitement more than anything else. It matters not whether that something is of a questionable nature or however morally wrong it may be, as long as he is able to feel excitement. Which brings forth the birth of his recklessness, as if he was unable to recognize all forms of danger, as if he was blind within that aspect. Which is also why he is perceived as a fearless individual by others, as he never shows any signs of cowardice despite whether he be fighting a powerful foe, or being in situations which most people would freak out in; such as being swarmed over by insects, or having them injected into his body. With such a nature, along with his sociopathic-like persona, makes him someone to truly fear in combat in the psychological sense. Knowing no such thing as fear, uncaring to any attempts to trap him, makes him a relentless attacker.
  
  
• COLLECTOR; Every single person in the world; whomever they may be, are bound to have some sort of hobby. Some spend their free time reading books, others train to further perfect their techniques. Kiryuu, being the odd individual that he is... is a collector. Though he isn't the usual stamp or coin collector that you all know and love, but rather a collector of... weapons. Kiryuu had taken the habit of taking the weapons of the enemies that he had managed to slain over the longevity of his life. Though he only takes weapons whom are capable of intriguing him, and thus ordinary weapons are usually never taken and thus left with their respective owners. Weapons whom captivate his interest are usually always taken, despite whether they are broken over the user's and Kiryuu's fight.

GOALS

• FREEDOM; The typical dreams or goals of any average teenager, typically consists of either becoming rich, famous, or finding true love. However, he claims that he has absolutely no interests in such 'worthless' goals. And when asked for what his are... one would be shocked by how unusual his answer is. Above all else, he deeply desires for what he refers as 'True Freedom'. He constantly seeks it, wanting to attain it... no matter what the costs may be. The reasons behind such a desire are simple. He wants to break off the chains which society had put on him. Those chains grew heavier with every passing day, until eventually he had became overwhelmed with the fear of losing himself. Being part of a high class family, he had often been told to act as such. Thus he never had the option of doing whatever he wanted. Since when he had became a teenager, the accumulated emotions gained from such a neglected childhood, were burst out with the imbalance of hormones. As such, he is now referred as a 'rebel', doing whatever he desires... despite whether those desires causes troubles to others or himself.
  
  
• EXCITEMENT; There are two different kinds of people, those whom find comfort in leading dull, peaceful lives... and those whom seek chaotic, exciting lives. Kiryuu is of the latter. Whenever one is subjugated to following orders, never doing anything for oneself during the entirety of their lives... excitement is greatly sought after by those individuals. But despite his desire for excitement, he rarely ever experiences it. Which explains the nearly constant apathetic face shown to others, devoid of any actual will; often being compared as lifeless. He requires a much more stimulating sense of excitement than other people, often these things are highly risky... often being illegal; some which may be referred as morally wrong by others. He adores everything about the feeling of excitement, the sweat, the adrenaline, the happiness, the loud thumping of his own heart... it is only then, that he can feel as if he is truly alive; which is why he doesn't care about how he obtains that emotion of his.

It was the 18th of October when Kiryuu had first seen the light of the world; which ironically enough, had been during the night. However it had not been planned for him to be born at this moment of time, considering that he had been born prematurely... by five months. As a result of his premature birth, he had a lot of complications with his body; which was likely that he would die. The primary issue was that he had a malformed heart, incapable of being fixed and thus he would suffer until a proper donor would show up. And if that wasn't unfortunate enough, he had been born with a rather rare blood type, greatly reducing his chances of attaining a new heart. However, fortunately enough, he had been born into the Sunėkuaizu family. The Sunėkuaizu family are renowned throughout the world for their thriving companies, effectively making them one of the most wealthy families in the entire world. And with their wealth, they had managed to also attain great political power and influence over the rest of the world. With all of these factors, they were capable of allowing Kiryuu to live, despite the absurd medical expenses. Kiryuu had been their only child at the time, which was something that they had spent years to no avail, of course they want him to live; after all, they needed a successor once they're gone. Kiryuu, from the day that he had been born was hooked to all sorts of machines... spending a good 9 years bed ridden whilst he suffered from excruciating pain and the vast amount of drugs that he had been forced to take.

He had spent the entirety of his life thus far in a white room at a prestigious hospital, though unlike his parents' wishes... he welcomed the thought of death. Each day he would feel excruciating pain, get drugged with general anesthesia along with others so that the pain may subside whilst he slept for what seemed like an eternity; and despite sleeping so much, he would always awaken as if he hadn't. The hunger that he felt was absurd, resulting the boy to look worse for wear. Though he hadn't cared for all of that as much as you would expect him to, the thing that he hated the most was the loneliness and lack of love. It was rare for him to see his parents, they were both important figures that seem to always be preoccupied with their empire, and whenever they could afford to make a visit, he was most likely asleep under the influence of general anesthesia. And the times that he was awake during their visit, was always awkward; seemingly being treated as an object belonging to them rather than their son. As such, he had become estranged with his parents and easily having his will bend by their wishes and ideals. He never became close with anyone, not the doctors, nurses or the other children. He never experienced love, so why would he desire to love another? This particular situation was what had twisted his mind beyond repair, resulting him bearing the demeanor that he has to this day.

It hadn't been until Kiryuu had reached the age of 13 did a proper donor had been found, luckily he had the priority of the heart due to his parents' influence over the hospital he was currently staying at. Despite what people might think, he showed no sign of happiness whatsoever for this supposedly wonderful thing. All he knew in life was pain, having it extended wasn't exactly good news. Whilst the physical pain had completely disappeared, the psychological damage that had occurred would last for an unknown duration of time; possibly forever. His parents were ecstatic once he had finally been released from the hospital, though much to their surprise... realized how weak he was. They had never realized how badly he was off due to the lack of interaction. He was underweight and had practically no muscle whatsoever, after all... he had spent 13 years bedridden, eating hospital food. And they were disappointed when they heard from the doctor that he had to go through physical rehabilitation before he was capable of officially being released from the hospital; which would take anywhere from a year or two.

By the time that he had turned 15 years old, he had successfully completed his physical rehabilitation. He had became capable of moving his body just as well as any normal person, and thus would now be officially released from the hospital. Whilst undergoing the rehabilitation, he was also being tutored, thus allowing him to go to a rather prestigious school shortly after his release. He listened and obeyed every command his parents have ever given, not objecting to anything; even with his arranged marriage. Though subconsciously, he must have hated doing as he was told. As Karate became a nice relief for his stress, as well as his status as a delinquent at his school. No one dared to mess with him, as unlike before his rehabilitation... his physique was rather monstrous. Karate had given him what seemed like superhuman strength and he became rather proficient in combat due to his constant diligence in karate... and street fighting. Teachers have done absolutely nothing, seeing as they were afraid of what might happen considering who his parents were. Thus, this encouraged his behavior until it permanently set in his current persona. He became an arrogant, independent individual that knew no such thing as fear.

Kiryuu, being the individual that he is, he had always been rather fond of video games. They were rather entertaining and usually met the criteria for making him feel excited. Though of course they had their limits that only reality could offer, which caused him to gradually become bored of them He was now 16 years old, and he hadn't gotten his fix of excitement for so long... he couldn't help but think of when this life of his would end. Whilst he was walking around Tokyo, he couldn't help but stare at the massive television screens overhead... and there it was; an advertisement for Sword Art Online. The first VRMMORPG of it's kind. Why not try it? And of course, him getting access to the game's BETA wasn't difficult seeing as he could get anything he desired due to his parents. And he loved it, he loved the game and time just flew by whilst he spent all of his time playing the game; skipping school just to play it as much as he could. And when it officially got released, he naturally got his copy as well. And when he discovered that there was no way out of this game... where death was sure to occur in reality should he die in the game. He was possibly the only player smiling and laughing with glee at the announcement. Finally, something exciting!
