<<HISTORY>>

Royce Katran's parents are both Japanese, but their family actually came to Japan from the United States. Royce lived the first five years of his life in Arizona, but when his parent's employers wanted Mr. and Mrs. Katran to move to Tokyo, they didn't have much of a choice. So, just after learning his first language, Royce had to pick up a second one.

Royce's younger school years were rough. His struggle with Japanese was evident, and his classmates never missed an opportunity to make fun of him for it. He didn't do well in school at first, barely managing to pass until he caught on to Japanese. Sadly, that didn't come for a couple years.

Royce found a huge boost in self-confidence as his language skills increased. Once he understood his teachers, he advanced quickly in school. He made a couple friends in junior high school, and these friends followed him into high school as well.

In high school Royce and his friends were all into video games. When the Nerve Gear came out, Royce was one of the first ones to buy one, and was thoroughly disappointed by all the awful software that came with it, and came out after it. Then, he heard about Sword Art Online.

Royce managed to secure a Beta pass for Sword Art Online when they were given out. Being one of the thousand players in Sword Art Online's beta was a fun experience for him. He quickly became attached to the polearm class of weapons, especially glaives. In real life, he even started learning how to fight with a quarterstaff. The skill translated well into glaive combat. Royce managed to fight his way up to floor 4 of the beta before it ended. Nowhere near the top, but he had some good experience. When the game went live, Royce was one of the first to secure a copy, carrying over the alias of "Hayden" that he had crafted in the beta.

When the game's creator announced that they were all locked in, Royce was startled. When his avatar's face was changed to that of himself, he was downright shocked. However, leaning on his glaive in that crowded
square, he made a decision. He was going to get out of this blasted game. He was just glad that his friends weren't stuck inside with him.

The user holds his polearm across his chest, with the point facing the ground. The weapon then becomes coated in blue flames that trail behind the arc of the swings but do no extra damage. The user then performs a hard upper slice followed by a heavy falling slice, performed a little slower but harder than normal strikes.

The user holds his polearm behind the small of his back. The weapon will then glow red. The user will then perform a sweeping strike in front of him, hitting up to three enemies at once.
