Hayate Koryu.
AGE:
20.
GENDER:
Male.
NATIONALITY:
Japanese.
APPEARANCE:
Koryu is tall and slim, though simply skinny rather than overly muscular. He typically wears clothing loose enough to not be restrictive, but tight enough that it won’t get in his way while he works. His brown hair is usually unkempt, and while he’s not unattractive, he rarely makes any effort to dress up or look good.

E-RANK.
►Uninhibited Escape Art. daggers, throwing weapon
3 Strikes, 0 Special, 100% Speed, 50% Power
When one jumps backwards and lowers their hand as if reaching for a knife on the belt, Shadow Flash Step can be activated. The Art sends the user back three meters at an incredible speed by pushing off of the ground and hurling three daggers at the same time. The accuracy of this attack is greatly reduced because all three are thrown at once and from the same hand, but each deals full damage if it strikes an enemy.
►Shadow Flash Step. daggers, throwing weapon
1 Strike, 2 Special, 100% Speed, 50% Power
Shadow Flash Step is activated when the user puts his weight forward onto his lead foot and extends both arms backwards: in the next instant, the system assist shoots him forward and hurls a dagger from his main hand at the eyes of an opponent. If it hits, the opponent suffers a minor Blind effect that lasts for 1 second.
[classy=title]PERSONALITY[/classy]
Koryu is very analytical and precise in his work. He hates leaving things undone or producing something that doesn’t live up to his very high expectations. He is friendly and outgoing, generous, and easy to get along with, but he is also gets very focused when he begins to work on something, often forgetting to eat or sleep in his lust to create.
At his worst, Koryu can be dogmatic and stubborn. He has been known to be vengeful and overly proud. He gets angry with people who don’t understand his work and has a hard time controlling his temper. Additionally, Koryu is occasionally vindictive and enjoys “cashing in” on perceived slights.
[classy=title]HISTORY[/classy]
►DESCRIBE YOUR CHILDHOOD:
Koryu is the second son and youngest child of an engineer, Hayate Shinji. He grew up with an intense love for machines and computers, taking after his father in more ways than one. He loved sports, especially soccer, and developed a love of free running. After dark, when he was home, he played video games and built things. His father tutored him in math and science when he could, trying to foster the boy’s love of building.
Koryu’s love for design never wavered. As a child, knights were his passion. After a while, he went through a phase where he was always sketching designs for modern day ninja. He even built a set of climbing claws, though his parents quickly confiscated those before he could hurt himself or someone else. Unfortunately, his constant struggles with the flaws of his designs lead him to learn mathematics and sciences far beyond his year, while his language and history skills deteriorated. As science were the classes he found fun anyway, he lost interest in school and spent most of his time lost in thought instead.
►DESCRIBE YOUR TEENAGE YEARS:
Koryu mostly slacked his way through his schooling and only focused on things that were interesting for him. His inventions continued, including dozens of other phases including high fantasy, dystopian future, and modern combat. For a while he entertained the idea of working for a company that would develop new weapons, but decided that he’d rather build things for fun than as a job.
►DESCRIBE YOUR ADULT YEARS:
Much to his family’s dismay, Koryu only barely managed to pass the entrance exam into his college of choice—a local university, rather than a prestigious one. He moved into a small apartment near the campus and took mainly engineering classes, but his habit of drifting off and thinking of other things hadn’t changed. He did well enough in enough classes to keep going, but it wasn’t enough for him. He made money upgrading computers for friends, taking pleasure in even momentary designs.
His apartment was strewn with tools and half built designs, every flat surface plastered with sheets of paper and pencils, ruler and protractors. The mess was so bad that after the Aincrad Incident, his parents had no idea how to begin packing his things, few as they were. Koryu lived amongst the disarray, a hypocritical force of order inside the chaos he created.
Koryu, like most kids his age, was fascinated by the NervGear. His interest was sparked mainly from his desire to know how it worked and take it apart, but a friend convinced him to buy and play Sword Art Online before he deconstructed the unit. Because he longed to see the device in action, Koryu skipped classes to get into the SAO line early, and managed to obtain one of the copies, much to the dismay of his more diligent friends.
►SWORD ART ONLINE:
[/td][/tr]He logged into the first day and eagerly made a character, exploring all that the world had to offer. He allocated his skill points first into making daggers, and then into combat skills as an afterthought. He would handle the rest after he’d had a few levels—but first, he wanted to take the machine apart.
Koryu opened the menu and tried to log out, but no matter how many times he pushed the button, nothing happened. He figured it was some lonely coder’s practical joke and walked to the main city to wait for the announcement that everything was fixed. What he got instead was a giant, terrifying GM reporting that this was an intended feature. The only way out was to beat the game.
Some people panicked. Others cried. Some ran out to immediately start fighting.
Koryu shrugged, picked up his daggers, and went to find something to make. He was completely new to the game and had no idea what he was doing, but he learned by doing. If he had to beat all 100 floors to make it back to the real world, then he just had to get started on the job at hand.
