Nanami grew up as an only child in Tokyo, Japan by two loving parents. While growing up, she had been harassed, bullied and picked on by all kids her age. However, despite all the teasing, Nanami refused to let it get to her. She was a cheerful young girl, always having a smile on her face and always did her best to make friends. Nanami had almost always been found singing and dancing in front of her bedroom mirror, talking her own secret language. While she was still young, she decided at the age of 8 that she would become a singer, like both her father and mother. Her mother became the biggest influence in Nanami's life as she reached the age of 8. She took notice of how madly in love she was with her father, and how she spoke of him with adoration. She admired her mother's ability to love unconditionally, and vowed to be like her one day.

As a teenager, Nanami developed a natural talent for singing. She started to perform for other people, including her parents. Despite this, she was still having troubles making friends with others. This made her develop a combative, nasty side to her that she shows whenever she felt threatened. That is, until she met a particular boy around her age who became her very first friend, and possibly her first crush. They were inseparable; they went everywhere together. One day when he had to leave, her heart was broken. He had given her a locket with a picture of him inside, promising her that he would come back and see her again. She continues to perform as a singer, and is still to this very day, waiting for that boy to return.

It had been a total of three years since Nanami had seen the boy from her childhood. Believing that she would never see him again, she focused on her blooming singing career, which had become her goal in life. However, it all changed when she had heard talk of the new game Sword Art Online. She was never big into games, she knew. Yet, her curiosity got the better of her, and she purchased the Nerve Gear in order for her to enter the game. Once inside, she became intrigued. After wanting to log out, she found that she couldn't do so. That was when the announcement of not being able to leave the game unless reaching the 100th floor appeared. What devastated the girl the most, was that if killed in the game, she would die in the real world as well. She was terrified, and she began to mourn over the fact that she may never see her loved ones again. Despite the fear of dying, she gathered all the courage she could muster and vowed to make it to the 100th floor alive, in order to see her family again, and to find her first love.

SWORD ARTS

To initiate this technique, the user must hold the polearm horizontally with both hands gripping at the bar of the polearm, blade facing skyward and hands several meters apart with the weapon at chest level. The sharp edge of the blade begins to glow a bright gold color, while the wielder starts to spin the polearm in a complete circle as the light from the blade creates a trail, making the outline of the circle visible. The light on the blade causes the edge to become sharper than usual, resulting in heavy damage. Once the polearm is now vertical, with the blade upright, the user soon dashes towards their opponent and creates a downward slice towards the enemy. If the enemy is caught off guard, the user is given the opportunity to stab the tip of the blade into the opponent. This move can easily be deflected, however, if the enemy has higher speed.

To initiate this technique, the blade of the polearm will start glowing a bright metallic silver. Soon after, the user starts with a swing from the top right to bottom left. Then the user will swing around the polearm to the top, top left to bottom right, and then swing the polearm back to the starting position. This technique allows the user to slow down the enemy's movements, so in order to initiate the slow effect, the user will finish off the technique with a quick slash directed at the knees.
