SPOONY<<NAME>>Derek Spade<<AGE>>25<<GENDER>>Male<<NATIONALITY>>America, specifically Boston, Massachusetts.<<APPEARANCE>>Derek's appearance in and out of game are a stark contrast from one another. In game, his apparel is made of a black duster with a white poet's shirt underneath that conceals a formed breastplate to his slender body. His pants are an olive green color to which the hems get tucked into a pair of black boots. The only weapon he carries is a rapier. On the day the game was released and he was locked into it, he'd laid down to put his nerve gear on sporting a Iron Maiden t-shirt and jeans.<<PERSONALITY>>

Derek is one to enjoy playing mind games. Since he's not one for combat, he'll find a way for someone to handle it for him, knowingly or not. He likes to perform, and will easily find himself integrated into a lot of close circles he can come off as a warm hearted, caring guy and generally likable. He's not a PKer, but he would throw someone to a PKer if it meant preserving his life.<<HISTORY>>Derek grew up in a normal home. Happily married parents, a good roof over his head, and excellent grades. He grew up with his parents essentially being able to glad-hand him anything he wanted, but didn't do so - anything he asked for, he worked for. It didn't stop him from becoming a social introvert, though.
He received a lot in his lifetime from any game console he could ask for, to cars, to computers worth thousands of dollars. Due to the fact that he was able to obtain all he deemed necessary to sustain his life, if Derek wasn't in school, he was locked up in his room and at later points in his life, his apartment playing games and avoiding any contact that wasn't through IM or forum posts. Generally speaking though, he was received as one of the more popular and respected member of any forum he was apart of, and was treated with respect due to his knowledge of anything that encompassed anything that was decidedly important to him from video games, to movies, to anime.
Derek has just completed a course to be a programmer, and is currently working on an operating system from home, which allows him all the time in the world to nail every sort of achievement, trophy, what-have-you in his vast library of games. When SAO was announced, he felt comfortable with allowing the apparent charisma he had be represented in an avatar, so long that he himself could sit in his apartment and avoid any contact outside of the game. He had applied to be a beta tester, but when he didn't receive a positive response, he made sure to reserve himself a copy.
Come release day, he worked as hard as possible to create a representation of what he really was and in this case, the closest thing to an in-game representation of him was what you could consider a bard.
At 5:30, Kayaba Akihiko held up a mirror to all those who had loaded themselves into the game. Their reflection - their true self - had distorted the image. This caused Derek to flip his lid like no other. He'd spent a long time crafting his appearance to be the most attractive male he could create, even if he were just refining his own features so they didn't appear so mundane. Then Akihiko dropped another bomb; death in the game meant a permanent end to their existence as people as well. That was the point in time where the cheery player known as Spoony had become Derek Spade, a man fighting for his life below the surface. If he was going to see the end, the easiest way would to avoid combat as much as possible and garner the trust and protection of others, even if it were to mean that several others would lose their lives. Some would rationalize this as Derek being a sociopath, but his mind was fixed on "every man for himself".
Since he had no way out, Derek's main goal had become survival. That didn't mean it'd be a minimalist's experience, however; Derek would bounce from level to level, town to town, settling in and making "friends" with some of the stronger types before using them for all they were worth. Perhaps he had accepted the fact he might not escape, but his mind told him that he was trying to survive. Perhaps someone, somewhere will be able to change Derek's view of the virtual world inhabited by his fellow gamers, or maybe he will continue on his path hoping one day that someone will beat the game.SKILLS
