I recently had a quest disqualified from my attempt at the Weapon Specialization Extra Skill before I finished all four of my quests. According to the skill list:
The review for the qualification of the extra skill is implied to be done when all four quests are completed. Is this not the case?
Also does training for the skill need to immediately start with the player focusing on the weapon? Training towards something can easily involve learning something outside of the specific area first to lay the foundations and then adapting that knowledge towards a more specific area.
An example would be: typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Assassin_(Fate/Extra)
In that specific example, learning to use a spear first required learning the preliminary steps through unarmed combat. I had plan on doing something similar except instead of using unarmed combat to learn spear usage, it would be learning a new thought process to improve on swordplay.
Thus I made my second Extra Skill quest based on changing Shi's thought process in battle as the preliminary steps for Weapon Specialization Long Sword of which he would then begin to adapt during the third quest and then refine during the fourth and final quest.
However, the disqualification of my second extra skill quest makes this process uncertain and leaves me wondering to what is considered training towards an extra skill. I had assumed that as long as we could connect the four quests together so that it showed our character going through the process of learning the skill that they could count. Thus I had the first quest make Shi see the flaws in his fighting, the second quest was to correct the flaw, the third would be to adapt, and the fourth would be to refine. Should I simply leave the preliminary steps/laying the foundations as an off-screen sort of thing for future extra skill quests?
"When you have completed your four quests, PM a moderator and include the links to the four quests so they begin reviewing your quests."

"The first three quests are up the discretion of the player and should revolve around the character learning about or training for the desired skill."

'The progenitor of the Li clan's branch of Bājí, Li Shuwen excelled in the use of spear to the point of being nicknamed "Divine Spear Li". The "Six Harmony Great Spear" that he used was a basic weapon of the Bājí-branch and, if one is to accept this extreme logic, it can be said that the unarmed techniques of the Bājí-branch (the Bājíquán) are nothing but preliminary steps to learn the techniques of this great spear.'
